The Tu Kaha Values Programme
The Tu Kaha Values Programme is our flagship programme delivering through a custom built mobile classroom to decile 1-3 schools across Aotearoa New Zealand. We are grateful to Complete Siteworks Company who built this incredible truck that enables us to be so mobile, taking the programme far and wide to all the places that would usually miss out on this type of support. Te Puni Kokiri currently funds the delivery of the programme and we are very lucky to have the support of McFall Fuel to gas us up!
Once we roll into a kura and get set up, its over to our amazing facilitation team to bring the magic. Team Harmun are fronted by Punahouora (Programme Facilitator) and Albert (Driver and Kaiawhina) with support from BJ (Programme Administrator) in the background. We couldn’t be more proud to have this wonderful whānau delivering the curriculum to students all around the motu.
The programme itself blends our four delivery values:
These values feed into our key lesson plans (Identity, Relationships, Resilience and Hauora). The objective is for students to use these four lessons to build a toolkit for dealing with life’s challenges. Groups of up to 30 students at a time spend two full days in the truck working through activity based learning to learn and apply these values to situations they are likely to encounter in life.
Our values are captured in the four icons that embody the programme:
1. Engage
Hei Toki representing Engagement, Strength and Identity.
2. Educate
Kete Matauranga representing Education, the three Baskets of Knowledge and Relationships.
3. Evolve
Mango Pare representing Empowerment, Determination and Resilience.
4. Empower
Koru representing Evolution, Development and Hauora.
